There are Coast Guard questions about using a "back tuck" in synthetic rope, but there's nothing about it in the Seaman's Manual. All I can find is that guide after guide repeats the same line, verbatim: "for heavy applications or towing, a back tuck should be used," without any further explanation. Hopefully your channel is still active, or someone who knows will see this...

Who's going to buy a swage plier to clamp one terminal end loop? I'm using two swages and a punch and hammer. for my truck winch wire replacement. works a treat. Drill a hole in the join of two thick peices of steel slightly larger dia than the wire to clamp and hammer the swages.

This makes a LOT more sense than some of the other 12-strand splice videos I've seen. Thank you.

Excellent video! I saw a 1/8” wire rope kit at the hardware store and figured it’d be great to string some lights over my backyard. I definitely would have saddled a dead horse had I not watched this video. I’ll say though, it’s harder than you make it look. I ended up securing the wire in a woodworking clamp while I attached the clips, and I still had trouble getting them lined up. No matter how careful I was, I could never get the clips pointed in exactly the same direction after tightening. I know this isn’t a “real” issue, but as a perfectionist it bothers me.

what part do I need for a removeable cable wire I'll be using for outside canvas hung on an arbor that can be taken down for storms.

what is the bolt torque ?

Never saddle a dead horse. This has been a problem for a long time. I have seen people who, you would think, would know better . I find it best to explain why. It's the u-bolt. The u-bolt deformes the wire, lessening the wires' strength . The dead end does not see the tension force as the live end. Would you ever saddle a dead horse?
